Whale Hunting
Whale hunting dates back to a very long time when people living along the coasts killed marine mammals for food.
Later on, commercial whaling took place and drove many whale populations to extinction or near-extinction! This cruel exploitation meant quick money for the whaling industry. And when there is a way to make good money in short time there are always be people to jump to take the chance, no matter what.
The history of whaling is a long, bloody story. And despite all efforts to protect the whales, the hunting and slaughtering still goes on and there is no end it sight. Whaling is a controversial topic and for every argument against it there is an argument for it.
The International Whaling Commission (IWC) regulates whale killing since 1946. It is by no means a whale protecting commission. Its purpose is the conservation of whale stocks. They decide which whale species may be taken and they set the limits of how many may be taken.
