Pygmy Right Whale
The Pygmy Right Whale is the smallest of all baleen whales. Very view sightings have so far been reported and this makes it hard to study this whale at all. Scientific findings are mainly based upon stranded animals. Therefore, only very little is known about this species. This whale remains a mystery – one of many in the oceans!
Length and Weight
Adult length: 5 – 6 m (females are slightly larger than males)
Body weight: 3.5 tonnes (3500 kg)
This is almost the size and weight of a blue whale calf!
Calves are thought to be about 3 m when weaned.

Body and Fins
This whale shares more body features with the grey whale than with other right whales.
It has a body shape similar to that of a minke whale. It is much more slender than the bulky bodies of the right whales.
